Urgently Required Booster Set, Belfast   May, 2020

On a Friday afternoon, we received a call urgently requiring a replacement booster set that would get a factory machine back up and running again.

Large Renovation Project, North London   November, 2019

This large renovation project, first brought to us in 2014, required a complete system for boosting cold water over 3 floors to 6 bathrooms. Our sister company, Smart Showers, was also asked to provide a steam shower system for the master bathroom for which a Charade 800 wetroom head was provided.

With large scale shower heads as well as standard water outlets to pressurise, the Pump World team specified and supplied a Smartpro Twin Pump Set, 6.0 Bar Hot Water Cylinder, Two Piece Break Tank with Raised Ball Valve Chamber and Water Treatment solutions. 10 Things You Should Know About Shower Pumps   January, 2020

Choosing the right shower pump can be daunting, especially with such a wide range of options available from twin to single, positive to universal, 1.5 bar to 3.0 bar. So, to make things a bit easier, we have collated a list of 10 things you should know about shower pumps:

• As a general rule, if the cold water tank is above the outlet point and there is a flow of at least 0.5 litres per minute from the outlet, a positive head shower pump is required.
• If the cold water tank is below the outlet point, or there is little or no flow, a universal head shower pump is required.
• Fitting a shower pump at the base of, or below, the hot water cylinder is the best option for your installation. (However, if you have to install a shower pump in the loft, please call our technical team for advice on the best product and method - 01793 820142).
• A shower pump with a regenerative impeller is specially designed to aid removal of air generated in the system.
• Pumps with regenerative impellers also offer slightly lower flow rates compared to centrifugal pumps, and are ideal to use when pipework is complicated by many bends and elbows.
• Pumps with centrifugal impellers are highly efficient but less tolerant to air generated in the system.
• Centrifugal impeller pumps offer higher flow rates than regenerative pumps, and are best to use when the pump is situated well below (<2m) the height of the cold water storage tank, and when pipework and bends can be kept to a minimum.
• Brass-bodied shower pumps with brass impellers, rubber feet, and regenerative design are among the quietest type of shower pump on the market.
• Air can build up in a shower pump installation over time and when not used regularly. It can cause a variety of issues including excessive noise, temperature fluctuation etc but a simple air test can clear out your installation and solve the issue. • When choosing the bar rating of your shower pump, bear in mind that some modern showers and taps do not work below a certain pressure. If you aren't sure, contact our technical team on 01793 820142.

Vessel Replacement, Wiltshire   December, 2019

In December 2019, we were sent a photograph with a message asking us to ID and supply a replacement pressure vessel for a domestic application as the original was leaking. We specified the required vessel along with reducing bush and lever ball valve for easy install, and the equipment was collected the very same day.

Is Air in my Pump System?   January, 2020

Air can build up in a pump installation for a number of reasons including water temperature being too high and irregular use. Some tell-tale signs that your pump is affected by air build-up are:

High Flow Boosting Project, Hampshire   September, 2019

In September 2019, we supplied a Systempro boosting package to boost the water pressure in a large property with over 4 floors and 5 bathrooms. Included in the package were 2x 800 Litre Break Tanks and Insulation Jackets, a twin booster set, a 500 Litre Hot Water Cylinder and Water Conditioner.

Our sister company, Smart Showers, supplied the shower system for the main bathroom which incorporated a Charade wetroom shower head (80 x 80 cm), body jets, handset and thermostatic valve - all designed and made in Italy.

Boosting a Large Property, London   May, 2019

In May 2019, we were asked to specify a complete system for boosting cold water over 3 floors to 5 bathrooms and 1 cloakroom. The system comprised of a Smart-box Twin Variable Speed Booster Set and 800 Litre Break Tank with connection kit tailored to the property’s pipework – both chosen to ensure a quiet-running and energy-saving solution with enough cold water storage to meet the full system operating for a period of 10 minutes.
An insulation jacket was specified to ensure the water inside the tank does not overheat or freeze. The tank cleanse was sized up in line with the tank’s capacity to offer continual protection against pathogenic bacteria, which can grow in water systems if left untreated. The tank cleanse also prevents the build-up of scale, biofilm and rust, which are conditions that can affect water flow and valve operation.
Finally, on the hot water storage side, a 400 Litre Indirect Stainless Steel Hot Water Cylinder with specially sized coil and Smartcirc BUPA-25-4 Secondary Circuit Stainless Steel Heating Pump were specified in accordance with the end user’s hot water requirements. The complete system was supplied through Frank Finn’s local plumbers’ merchant.
